Alfa Romeo komt vanaf 2022 met Audi Q2-concurrent

Alfa Romeo denkt met het aanbod van drie SUV’s weer kleur op de wangen te krijgen. Over twee jaar moet een compacte elektrische SUV –maatje Audi Q2 – naast de Stelvio en nieuwe Tonale komen te staan.

Met Alfa Romeo gaat het niet goed. En dat is een doorn in het oog van menig autoliefhebber. Nu PSA en FCA aan het fuseren zijn, lijkt de toekomst er niet meteen rooskleuriger op te worden. Het nieuwe concern wil mogelijk een paar van de 14 samengevoegde merken schrappen en pessimisten denken dat het wel eens Alfa Romeo kan zijn. Tegelijkertijd zou het doodzonde zijn om het iconische Italiaanse merk te schrappen, omdat haar sportieve imago de nieuw gefuseerde autofabrikant veel goed zou doen.

Tonale

Voorlopig maakt Alfa Romeo gewoon plannen voor de toekomst. Om weer mee te gaan tellen in Europa wil het merk in de nabije toekomst drie SUV’s kunnen aanbieden. Naast de huidige Stelvio moet er een hoogpotige voor het middensegment en in de compactere klasse komen. De (hierboven afgebeelde) Tonale staat voor volgend jaar gepland en verdringt met zijn SUV-carrosserie de Giulietta.

Elektrische aandrijflijn

Waar de Tonale in eerste instantie een plug-in hybride is, moet de derde SUV in het rijtje – een compact exemplaar – volledig elektrisch aangedreven zijn. Die Q2-concurrent staat voor 2022 op de rol. Met het drietal SUV’s wil per jaar 400.000 auto’s verkopen. Vorig jaar bleef dat aantal op nog geen 55.000 steken.

The 4.6 HSE, also known as P38A, was the second generation Range Rover, almost a quarter of a century after its debut. That meant that now we were in the 90s, and the concept of SUV had dramatically changed. People didn’t put off-road capabilities at the first place, instead they asked for luxury and comfort. During the design stage, several firms were contacted, and Bertone even made a full scale model, but at the end they opted for the classic British style, rightfully so. The 4.6 HSE gave exactly that (the HSE stands for “High Specification Equipment”), for instance it had an advanced, yet very troublesome, air suspension system, powered by the 4.6L V8, that would produce 225 hp and 280 ft-lb of torque. On the inside, it was basically a living room, so much in fact that in 1996 debuted the possibility of ordering one with a television and video system with VHS player. It was without a doubt the best off-roader in the world at the time of its debut, although unfortunately its cutting-edge electronics had plenty of faults, but it helped set the bar of what a luxury SUV should be. ? @iamted7
