Opvolger McLaren F1 is zowel circuitmonster als luxe GT

Dit jaar is het 25 jaar geleden dat McLaren haar iconische F1 introduceerde. De opvolger van die F1 is inmiddels aangekondigd voor begin 2019. Dit is wat we al weten van de nieuwe hypercar van McLaren. Even terug naar 1992. De F1 wordt geïntroduceerd en slaat in als een bom. Het is zijn top van 386 kilometer per uur, zijn gigantische prijskaartje, zijn met bladgoud beklede twaalfcilinder motor en vooral zijn revolutionaire zitpositie die tot de verbeelding spreken. Net als in een F1-auto mocht de bestuurder plaats nemen in een centraal geplaatste kuip, geflankeerd door twee kleine bijrijdersstoelen.

Driezits

In 2019 krijgt de F1 zijn langverwachte opvolger. En weer zal het een driezitter zijn, ook komt het model net als zijn illustere voorvader in een beperkte oplage van 106 stuks. En ja, de prijs is wederom astronomisch. De grens van 2 miljoen euro moet met gemak overschreden worden, maar eigenlijk is dat een futiliteit, want alle exemplaren zijn al lang en breed verkocht. Toch wil de nieuwe F1, voorlopig nog BP23 genoemd, geen regelrechte doorontwikkeling zijn van de originele F1. We leven immers een kwart eeuw verder.

Hybride

Het begint al met de aandrijflijn. De nieuwe F1 is een hybride met een systeemvermogen van meer dan 900 pk. Een twinturbo 4,0-liter V8 werkt samen met een elektromotor. Heel belangrijk is dat de auto in staat moet zijn de drie inzittenden over langere stukken comfortabel te vervoeren. Dat is geen mooie bijkomstigheid, maar een harde eis van McLaren. De nieuwe F1 is én racer én GT. Zo zullen de demping en aerodynamica aangepast kunnen zodat de hypercar onder verschillende omstandigheden uitblinkt. Vanzelfsprekend wordt de auto opgetrokken uit koolstofvezel, want met zijn bijzondere eigenschappen – licht en sterk - mag een dergelijk structuut in de super-McLaren niet ontbreken.

Bespoke

Elke koper krijgt standaard te maken met McLaren Special Operations (MSO), want elke van de 106 verkochte versies moet uniek zijn.

This engine was capable of pushing the 400R over 315km/h (195mph), with a 0-100 (0-60) in less than 4 seconds. The 4.6 HSE, also known as P38A, was the second generation Range Rover, almost a quarter of a century after its debut. That meant that now we were in the 90s, and the concept of SUV had dramatically changed. People didn’t put off-road capabilities at the first place, instead they asked for luxury and comfort. During the design stage, several firms were contacted, and Bertone even made a full scale model, but at the end they opted for the classic British style, rightfully so. The 4.6 HSE gave exactly that (the HSE stands for “High Specification Equipment”), for instance it had an advanced, yet very troublesome, air suspension system, powered by the 4.6L V8, that would produce 225 hp and 280 ft-lb of torque. On the inside, it was basically a living room, so much in fact that in 1996 debuted the possibility of ordering one with a television and video system with VHS player. It was without a doubt the best off-roader in the world at the time of its debut, although unfortunately its cutting-edge electronics had plenty of faults, but it helped set the bar of what a luxury SUV should be. ? @iamted7
