McLaren BP23 moet legendarische F1 overstijgen en richting geven

Nu de publiciteitsstorm rond de nieuwe 720S wat is gaan liggen, schuift McLaren de BP23 naar het centrum van de aandacht. De hypercar moet de legendarische F1 overstijgen en bovendien McLaren klaar stomen voor het volgende decennium. We kunnen ons opmaken voor nog twee jaren met flink wat teasers van de McLaren BP23 nu het eerste beeld met zeggingskracht ruim voor de introductie in 2019 opduikt. We zien een grove schets van de achterzijde, waarbij de kont van BP23 vooral erg laag en breed is en de achterlichtunits smal. Ook lijkt de auto extreem aerodynamisch te worden.

Referentie

De BP23 is slechts een werktitel, maar zeker is dat McLaren de mythische F1 uit 1992 als referentie heeft. De BP23 moet zeker die F1 overtreffen op het gebied van vermogen, waarmee het startpunt bij ruim 900 pk begint. Ook zal de opstelling van drie stoelen waarschijnlijk terug keren, waarbij de ‘piloot’ net als een F1-coureur plaatsneemt in het voorste kuipje. In tegenstelling tot de F1 richt de BP23 zich niet alleen op sportieve prestaties maar nadrukkelijk ook op luxe en rijcomfort op langere afstanden.

Voorloper

De hyper-GT - alle 106 exemplaren zijn al verkocht voor ruim twee miljoen Pond – vormt als nieuw vlaggenschip een brug naar het volgende decennium. Vanaf 2020 zal de hybride aandrijflijn in meerdere McLaren-modellen terugkeren. Momenteel beschikt alleen de P1 over een combinatie van verbrandings- met elektromotor. Verder zal de BP23 beschikken over een koolstofvezel structuur van de volgende generatie, waarvan ook andere toekomstige McLarens van gaan profiteren.

V6

McLaren lijkt over een aantal jaar ook de V8-motoren in te ruilen voor V6-exemplaren. De autofabrikant wil dat bevestigen noch ontkennen, wel zeggen de Britten dat ze niet kijken naar cilinderinhoud, maar naar prestaties en opwinding.

The 4.6 HSE, also known as P38A, was the second generation Range Rover, almost a quarter of a century after its debut. That meant that now we were in the 90s, and the concept of SUV had dramatically changed. People didn’t put off-road capabilities at the first place, instead they asked for luxury and comfort. During the design stage, several firms were contacted, and Bertone even made a full scale model, but at the end they opted for the classic British style, rightfully so. The 4.6 HSE gave exactly that (the HSE stands for “High Specification Equipment”), for instance it had an advanced, yet very troublesome, air suspension system, powered by the 4.6L V8, that would produce 225 hp and 280 ft-lb of torque. On the inside, it was basically a living room, so much in fact that in 1996 debuted the possibility of ordering one with a television and video system with VHS player. It was without a doubt the best off-roader in the world at the time of its debut, although unfortunately its cutting-edge electronics had plenty of faults, but it helped set the bar of what a luxury SUV should be. ? @iamted7
