Weekendtip: The Art of Performance Tour

Jaguar’s meest recente aanwinst is de volledig elektrische I-Pace. Dat veelbesproken model staat, samen met de XE, XF, F-Pace en E-Pace, centraal tijdens de The Art of Performance Tour op 13 en 14 oktober in Lelystad.

De lijfspreuk van het bekende Britse merk Jaguar is ‘The Art of Performance’. Daarmee wil Jaguar zeggen dat haar auto’s opvallend zijn vormgegeven én sportief zijn. Het meest recente voorbeeld is de I-Pace. De eerste volledige elektrische SUV van het merk heeft een design dat zeer in de smaak valt en dat koppelt aan een dynamisch rijgedrag. De twee elektromotoren aan boord van de I-Pace, zijn samen goed voor vermogen van 400 pk en een koppel van 700 Nm. De spurt van nul naar honderd verloopt in 4,8 seconden.

F-Pace

Van een zelfde lichtvoetigheid is de F-Pace, de eerste en grootste SUV van Jaguar. Bij zijn introductie een paar jaar geleden werd de F-Pace net als de I-Pace zeer goed ontvangen. Zelf schreven wij erover dat hij beter dan de benchmark is. Een van z’n geheimen? De aluminium basisarchitectuur; dezelfde als de XE en XF. Met een gewicht vanaf 1.665 kilogram is de F-Pace de lichtste auto in zijn klasse en dat vertaalt zich naar prima prestaties.

Om te laten zien hoe goed haar auto’s zijn, heeft Jaguar de The Art of Performance Tour opgezet. Dat is een rondreizend evenement dat op zaterdag 13 en zondag 14 oktober in Lelystad neerstrijkt. Jaguar neemt naast de I-Pace dan de XE, XF, F-Pace en E-Pace mee naar het midden van het land voor een kennismaking. Niet via een doorsnee proefrit, maar onder meer door middel van rijproeven op de baan van Rijvaardigheidscentrum Lelystad. Onder leiding van ervaren instructeurs is dan het uiterste uit de auto’s te halen. Zo is er onder meer een Smart Cones Challenge voor de Jaguar I-Pace uitgezet.

The 4.6 HSE, also known as P38A, was the second generation Range Rover, almost a quarter of a century after its debut. That meant that now we were in the 90s, and the concept of SUV had dramatically changed. People didn’t put off-road capabilities at the first place, instead they asked for luxury and comfort. During the design stage, several firms were contacted, and Bertone even made a full scale model, but at the end they opted for the classic British style, rightfully so. The 4.6 HSE gave exactly that (the HSE stands for “High Specification Equipment”), for instance it had an advanced, yet very troublesome, air suspension system, powered by the 4.6L V8, that would produce 225 hp and 280 ft-lb of torque. On the inside, it was basically a living room, so much in fact that in 1996 debuted the possibility of ordering one with a television and video system with VHS player. It was without a doubt the best off-roader in the world at the time of its debut, although unfortunately its cutting-edge electronics had plenty of faults, but it helped set the bar of what a luxury SUV should be. ? @iamted7
