Twee nieuwe achtcilinders voor de Audi A8

Audi biedt voortaan twee nieuwe achtcilinder-krachtbronnen aan voor haar A8. De Audi A8 60 TDI is voorzien van een 435 pk sterke V8-dieselmotor, terwijl de S8 liefst 571 pk put uit een 4.0 V8 TFSI met twee turbo’s.

De nieuwe Audi S8 is sinds vandaag te bestellen bij de Audi-dealers en dat betekent dat een prijskaartje bekend is. De topvariant van het vlaggenschip start bij 193.850 euro. Voor dat bedrag monteert Audi een 571 pk sterke V8 TFSI benzinemotor onder de motorkap die goed is voor een maximumkoppel van 800 Nm. De 4.0 V8 TFSI met dubbele turbo’s schenkt de A8 pittige prestaties, want in 3,8 seconden schiet je van nul naar honderd. Om het gemiddelde verbruik iets te temperen is mild-hybridetechnologie en cilinderuitschakeling aan boord.

Rijke uitrusting

Voor een sportief en tegelijkertijd comfortabel weggedrag is adaptieve luchtvering met actieve demping standaard. Zaken als dynamische vierwielbesturing en een sportdifferentieel zijn dat ook. Het uiterlijk van de Audi S8 krijgt verfraaiingen in de vorm van buitenspiegels in aluminium-optiek en twee dubbele uitlaatpijpen. In het interieur draait het om S-designaccenten en een overvloed aan digitale slimmigheden. Bijna alle functies zijn via twee grote schermen te bedienen. ‘Valcona’ bekleding maakt het luxe interieur compleet, samen met een automatische airconditioning met vier zones, een Bang & Olufsen 3D Premium geluidssysteem en elektrisch bedienbare zonwering voor de achter- en zijruiten.

The 4.6 HSE, also known as P38A, was the second generation Range Rover, almost a quarter of a century after its debut. That meant that now we were in the 90s, and the concept of SUV had dramatically changed. People didn’t put off-road capabilities at the first place, instead they asked for luxury and comfort. During the design stage, several firms were contacted, and Bertone even made a full scale model, but at the end they opted for the classic British style, rightfully so. The 4.6 HSE gave exactly that (the HSE stands for “High Specification Equipment”), for instance it had an advanced, yet very troublesome, air suspension system, powered by the 4.6L V8, that would produce 225 hp and 280 ft-lb of torque. On the inside, it was basically a living room, so much in fact that in 1996 debuted the possibility of ordering one with a television and video system with VHS player. It was without a doubt the best off-roader in the world at the time of its debut, although unfortunately its cutting-edge electronics had plenty of faults, but it helped set the bar of what a luxury SUV should be. ? @iamted7
