Carros nieuwsflash: Tonale vervangt Giulietta bij Alfa Romeo

Kort automotive-nieuws- en geruchten lees je in de Carros nieuwsflash. Dit is de oogst van donderdag 2 april: Alfa Romeo kiest voor compacte SUV, Volkswagen Arteon en Tiguan waarschijnlijk als GTE en BMW introduceert mild hybrid-techniek op de 3 Serie.

Alfa Romeo Giulietta maakt plaats voor SUV

Aan het eind van dit jaar neemt Alfa Romeo afscheid van de Giulietta. De Italianen zien meer heil in een SUV voor het C-segment. De Tonale Concept die het een jaar geleden toonde zou een blauwdruk zijn voor de SUV. Alfa Romeo belooft dat de Tonale behoorlijk sportief is, want de auto moet net zo goed rijden als de Giulietta, ook al staat hij hoger op de poten. Dat het merk de Giulietta uitzwaait is niet zo verwonderlijk, met 15.690 verkochte exemplaren in Europa is de auto niet echt een verkooptopper te noemen. Het model stamt uit 2010.

GTE-embleem maakt overstap naar Volkswagen Arteon en Tiguan

Als je bij Volkswagen graag een sportieve plug-in hybride wilt rijden, kom je uit bij de Golf en de Passat. Het lijkt er op dat het merk binnenkort de Arteon en Tiguan uitbrengt als GTE. Welke benzinemotor Volkswagen koppelt aan een elektromotor is nog niet bekend, maar het is waarschijnlijk dat er gekeken wordt naar de Golf GTE. Die versie combineert een 1,4-liter turbobenzinemotor met 150 pk met een elektromotor. Samen komen ze tot 245 pk aan vermogen en dat lijkt voldoende voor zowel de Tiguan als Arteon GTE. Reken op een volledig elektrisch actieradius van maximaal 60 kilometer.

BMW introduceert mild hybrid-techniek op de 3 Serie, X3 en X4

Na de 5 Serie, X5 en X6 gaat BMW ook een modelserie lager aan de slag met mild hybrid-techniek. Zowel de 3 Serie, X3 en X4 worden binnenkort leverbaar met een 48-Volt elektrisch systeem. Het doel van de techniek is het gemiddelde verbruik te verlagen. BMW koppelt bij de 5 Serie het elektrische systeem aan de 190 pk sterke dieselmotor. Best kans dat ze dat bij de 3 Serie ook gaan doen, al is daar officieel nog niets over vrijgegeven.

The 4.6 HSE, also known as P38A, was the second generation Range Rover, almost a quarter of a century after its debut. That meant that now we were in the 90s, and the concept of SUV had dramatically changed. People didn’t put off-road capabilities at the first place, instead they asked for luxury and comfort. During the design stage, several firms were contacted, and Bertone even made a full scale model, but at the end they opted for the classic British style, rightfully so. The 4.6 HSE gave exactly that (the HSE stands for “High Specification Equipment”), for instance it had an advanced, yet very troublesome, air suspension system, powered by the 4.6L V8, that would produce 225 hp and 280 ft-lb of torque. On the inside, it was basically a living room, so much in fact that in 1996 debuted the possibility of ordering one with a television and video system with VHS player. It was without a doubt the best off-roader in the world at the time of its debut, although unfortunately its cutting-edge electronics had plenty of faults, but it helped set the bar of what a luxury SUV should be. ? @iamted7
